An industrial electrician performs the roles of repairing, maintaining and testing electrical equipment. For most of the industrial electricians, they have full-time jobs. Once is through the apprentice program, they need to pass an examination so as to be licensed.

In addition to being licensed, there are other qualifications that one must meet. Being able to work under difficult condition, be able to climb machines, work in confined spaces, be able to communicate effectively, and understand blueprints are some of the qualities required of an industrial electrician. Good colour vision is the other crucial skill that one should possess as a industrial electrical engineer. Good vision for colours is required because the professionals must work with coloured wires.

A good electrician should be able to troubleshoot. The troubleshooting capability enables one to identify problems and come up with ways of solving the problems. Customer service is also a key skill. The importance of having customer skills is because they deal with a variety of customers and should therefore be able to deal with them in a friendly manner even at the work site. It is vital that they possess critical thinking because they must think critically when performing their job.

Industrial electricians have found their skills to be having a wide application in the manufacturing industry. The manufacturing industry operates using a wide range of systems and machines. In the industries, the electrician have the knowledge and skills to identify the problems facing the systems and machines. With their experience they can then be able to identify inefficient segments. By being able to identify the problems they can make the necessary remedies.
